Me… in a nutshell.

If you don’t have time to read, or simply don’t care ;)

Nasco a Pescara, nell’anno 1989.

I was born in Pescara, in 1989.

Since I was I child I discover a strong predisposition towards artistic disciplines which, paired with an important rational component, leads my training, as both a person and a professional, ranging between numerous areas of interest.

I compose music for video and start my own personal music projects. I define myself a “360” keyboards player; I find in the concept of “Sound Design” the center of my “mission” as a musician, which is the search for the “best sound”, and so I keep my experimentations up.

I find my place in photography, after years of practice (first discontinuous then systematic) as a landscape, reportage and Live Music photographer, even though I don’t disdain other photographic genres.

It took me a very small step to go to photography from video: as soon as I started experimenting with stills, I decided to make them move. I stress the concept of “pre-production” and I take it to a crucial level of importance in my workflow.

Time-Lapse photography is, to me, both a milestone and a starting point. The ability to show the passing of time in a few seconds holds an enormous expressive power, so I decide to master this technique and put it at my art’s service.

In Computer Graphics (mainly advertising, logo design and artworking) I find the starting point of my professional experience. I attend a computer graphics course and during the following years I perfect my knowledge of the main professional softwares (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

My degree in Computer Science comes to the end of a long journey, started from an early passion for technologies. Software Engineering gives me skills which I apply to other fields to, mainly related to project and resources management, teamworking, milestones and deadlines.

I’ve always believed than the most important aspect to account, in interpersonal relationships, is mutual respect: on this value (respect for the client, for myself, for my work and my colleagues’ work) I start developing and strengthening my personal work other than on honesty, transparency and humility. Following this ethics, I honor every work commitment with the sole aim of giving the best result possible.

From all these principles and especially from a strong, vivid passion, my always growing will to perfect myself is originated and, bond with a genuine determination, pushes me towards the pursue of all my goals.

About me

Who am I?

“Stop being so perfectionist!”

IT

I was born in Pescara, in 1989.

Since I was a kid, I start showing a strong interest towards artistic disciplines which, nurtured by my mother’s participation, leads a very young me to meet Music and Photography; however, a marked rational part of myself turns my interest towards sciences too.

Eager for knowledge, I start reading and talking way too soon.

I discover Lego and my imagination starts running free, strengthening my already fervid imagination.

The “abstract/concrete” duo carries my entire personal and professional growth process: I accomplish my scientific high school diploma and, later, my degree in Computer Science, without disregarding the artistic compartment; I carry my music and my photography, even if in a discontinuous way; then I add Computer Graphics and, years later, Video in the equation.

I’ve always believed than the most important aspect to account, in interpersonal relationships, is mutual respect.

From solid foundations, based on respect, one can build a healthy, functional and beautiful relationship, being it a work, friendship or love one.

Starting from my first working experiences I started developing and strengthening my personal work ethics based, indeed, on respect (for the client, for myself, for my work and my colleagues’ work), honesty, transparency and humility.

Following this ethics, I honor every work commitment with the sole aim of giving the best result possible.

From all these principles and especially from a strong, vivid passion, my always growing will to perfect myself is originated and, bond with a genuine determination, pushes me towards the pursue of all my goals.

Music

and Sound.

Influenze musicali:

Pink Floyd, Alan Parson & The Alan Parson’s Project, Ozric Tentacles, Goblin, Ayreon, Dream Theater, Thomas Bergersen, Hans Zimmer, Pain of Salvation, Symphony X, Michael Pinnella, Nightwish, OSI, Chroma Key, Muse, Pendulum, Dead Letter Circus, TesseracT, Periphery.

I start studying the piano and the electronic keyboards at the age of 8.
Many years later, I put my hands on my first rock music CD and from that moment on my musical ground is deeply shook to the its actual morphology.

I listen to Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Californication and, from those two albums, two roads are originated: one to lead me to Progressive Rock/Metal, passing through Punk and Hard Rock, and the other to let me range between numerous other genres, among which are Funky, Drum n’ Bass, quality Electronic Music, Fusion and some international Pop too.

In spite of the classic piano studies, I’ve never defined myself a pianist, but a keyboardist (“keyist”, for brevity).

I’ve always been very careful to underline the differences between those two musical figures: the “keyist” has to deal with electronic keyboards and synthesizers, and everything orbiting around them and around the concept of Sound Design.

This is a concept I’m very fond of, because it focuses the milestone every keyboards player, in my opinion, should reach: the ability to craft, model and shape the sound to make it fit his musical needs.

I’ve always believed that the distinctive feature in a keyboards player is the inclination to experimentation.

My true personal and professional growth process, as a “keyist”, starts when I first met the synthesizer and, from that moment on, I’ve never stopped experimenting; currently my musical influences are pretty wide and solid, nevertheless I’m always looking for something new to check out.

Today my main trade with music is composing soundtracks for video, even though I’m also carrying on two important personal musical projects. [portfolio]

During the years I play the electric bass and I discover quite a strong feeling with drums and percussions.

Photography

and Light.

I attend my first photography course when I’m 6: an interdisciplinary path for kids which embraces history and archaeology of the province I’m from (Abruzzi), as well as photography. From that moment and for the next twelve years I photograph occasionally, mainly with two analog cameras, a Kodak and a blu Konica Minolta, without a particular purpose nor a particular attention.

At the age of 17 I get my fisrt digital camera – a gift from my mother – which lets me keep shooting without having to rely on the film.

A certain inclination towards landscape and reportage photography stars to transpire, even if in an embryonic form.

A certain attention for framing characterizes my whole photographic journey: from my first analog photographs to the pictures I used to take with my first smartphone, a Nokia 6600, until today.

I keep shooting with no particular photographic knowledge, with my Nikon, for the following six years when, after signing myself to the Computer Science course of the University of L’Aquila, I decide that it’s time to free the last passion of mine from its cage: I buy my first DSLR, a Canon EOS 60D.

I start to eagerly study everything there is to know about photography, shooting and post-processing, saturating all the possibilities my 18-55mm has to offer me; within a few mounts I buy a prime lens and two fast zooms, a wide and a normal one, and a cheap telephoto zoom: here my true photographic experience begins.

I like to say that, from this point on, my “passion for taking photos” becomes “passion for photography”.

Simultaneously with my academic studies, I read about the famous photographers and experiment with almost every photographic genre: from landscape to macro photography, from portraiture to reportage, from sports to street photography, ending with Live Music photography; so I have the proof of my particular predisposition for landscape photograhy, reportage and live music photography.

After getting my degree in Computer Science, I buy a full professional Canon equipment, with which I start shooting video too, throwing the foundations of what will become my paramount trade.

Video

and Motion.

It takes me very small step to get from photography to video; after starting experimenting with still pictures, I feel a natural need to make them move.

It all starts almost as a joke, just filming a couple of songs during a friends’ gig; from that moment I started expanding my knowledge. I practice a lot, also gaining informations from other professionals’ expertise and learning numerous lessons, all very important while working.

The figure who influences me the most is, without a doubt, my dear friend and colleague, Alessandro Petrini (link).

In the next two years, video becomes the main focus of my professional work: I start shooting spot, musical videoclips, a short film and many other contents you can find here (link).

One thing becomes very clear to me, as soon as I started making video: this field, other than presuming a deep knowledge of both basic and advanced photographic techniques, holds a whole set of problems, which management may be very demanding, for a single person: therefore I start believing that the far more crucial aspect of any video production is the pre-production.

On this consideration, I build the success of every video I make and I strive to do my best arranging every single detail, before pressing the “rec” button.

Time-Lapse

and the flow of time.

Time-Lapse photography is, to me, both a milestone and a starting point.

I’ve always been amazed by those videos in which “the clouds were moving fast”, that can show you the passing of time; so, when I see this technique at work, thanks to Alessandro, I decide that, whenever the right moment would have come, I’d dedicate myself to the study and the exploration of Time-Lapse, in its every aspect.

Is within the potentiality to condensate whole hours in few seconds that the enormous expressive power of this technique resides.

Working with Time-lapse photography means constantly challenging yourself, stressing your own skills, but in the final product you can find a great satisfaction (or a bitter delusion!).

After a long and ambitious Time-Lapse project (9 whole months) I can say I have my pre-production, shooting and post-processing  workflows strengthened and I consider myself ready for whatever challenge may come next.

Some other things to know about me.

Computer Graphics (mostly advertising, logo design and artworking) is the first artistic discipline I approach with the purpose of taking it to a professional level.

I attend a computer graphics course on my second high school year and then I keep using Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, learning to use them and perfecting my working skills.

Working as a freelance graphic designer in a non-profit association operating in the fields of sports and culture, I get the chance to refine my workflow and become aware of the mechanics which belong to a working environment: I create advertising material, banners, logos and layouts.

I carry on with my professional activity, even if in a discontinuous way, creating logos, artworks and miscellaneous graphics; currently I’m using my computer graphics skills to create all the content I need for my professional work.

Last but not least: Computer Science.

I’m led towards the world of technology but my uncle, at the age of 10.
Tweaking with computers, computer parts and many other devices, I start getting familiar with electronic components and since my first high school year I decide that I would have signed myself to the University to study Computer Science, to explore the world of Software too, and get a deeper understanding of everything concerning computers.

My thesis basically consists in the design and implementation of a “modal”, cross-platform instant messaging app.

To this day, informatics represents a huge portion of my theoretical and practical knowledges and, even though I chose not to practice it for a living, I still use it to supply to my personal needs (and build some occasional website, using WordPress [link].

I’ve always had a peculiar predisposition for writing, even though I’ve never considered myself a writer; at the age of 17 I win the first prize in a literary contest concerning environmental education, in the “newspaper article” category (the prize I win is a laptop computer).

Aside from Music, Photography, Filmmaking and Computer Graphics, I love to experiment with taste too: cooking relaxes me and I do it as often as I can (and I love photographing and filming food as well!)
